Established in 2010, G13 Gallery is one of Malaysia's foremost contemporary art institutions. Its mission is to showcase innovative and thought-provoking artworks by Malaysian and Southeast Asian artists. Through its carefully curated exhibitions, artist residencies and international collaborations, the gallery promotes discourse on contemporary art, strengthens cross-border partnerships and raises the profile of regional art.
It also supports academic research and publications that contribute to furthering discourse on contemporary art in Asia. Through its commitment to artistic excellence and meaningful participation, the gallery plays a crucial role in shaping the contemporary art scene in Malaysia and beyond. Its focus is on promoting contemporary Asian art. G13 works with artists who stand out for their significant potential, relevance and depth.
Following the success of Najib Ahmad Bamadhaj's solo exhibition at Art Fair Zurich 2025, whose works have gained local and international recognition, G13 Gallery will present an impressive exhibition of Malaysian art this year.
At Art International Zurich 2026, G13 Gallery will present: Anisa Abdullah, Najib Bamadhaj, Nik M Shazmie
Anisa Abdullah (b. 1985) is a contemporary artist known for her intricate paper collages. These consist of thousands of cut-out fragments. Although she was originally trained as a painter, she discovered that collage was her preferred medium for depicting life, nature and the urban landscapes of Malaysia. After spending time in Yogyakarta in 2012, she held her first solo exhibition the following year, subsequently raising her international profile by participating in art fairs in Shanghai, Bangkok and the Philippines. Her 2023 exhibition, 'Gemersik', marked a significant development in her artistic career. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UiTM Shah Alam and has received numerous awards in her field.
Najib Ahmad Bamadhaj (b. 1987) is a renowned Malaysian artist known for his thoughtful exploration of society and politics. Since graduating with a Fine Arts degree from UiTM Shah Alam in 2010, he has combined keen observation with technical skill. As a founding member of the artist collective RUMPUN, he has promoted creativity within the art scene. His works, which frequently explore themes such as women, animals, flowers and natural landscapes, challenge established viewpoints and inspire action. His solo exhibitions, including Great Migration (2012), Survival (2015), Pride and Prejudice (2020) and The New Beginning (2023), have been instrumental in showcasing his artistic development. Through innovative narratives and techniques, he continuously pushes artistic boundaries in dialogue with social issues. His art has been exhibited internationally in Asia and Europe and is included in the collections of major institutions.
Nik M Shazmie (b. 1991) is a Malaysian artist known for his pop-surrealist works, which address social issues through humour and multi-layered meanings. After completing a Master's degree in Fine Arts at UiTM Shah Alam, he began his career in 2014 by winning the Nando's 'Peri-fy Your Art' competition. He further established his reputation by winning the UOB Painting of the Year (Malaysia) award in 2025. Drawing inspiration from manga and pop culture, his distorted figures and tragicomic aesthetic explore themes of identity crisis and the pursuit of perfection. Shazmie has held numerous exhibitions, including solo shows such as Face Fiction and The Rojak Wormhole. He recently participated in the 'Return of the Cute Show' exhibition in the United States. He is currently broadening his artistic practice by incorporating three-dimensional elements and Cubist influences that challenge traditional boundaries.
