Cross-border practice in the dialogue between memory, the body, and the environment.

The Shaura Gallery is a transnational platform that fosters cultural dialogue between artistic heritage and contemporary research.
In its Paris and London salon spaces, the gallery presents exhibition and event formats operating at the intersection of installation, light, the moving image, and architectural intervention. The curatorial focus is on immersive, research-led practices that explore the interrelationships between the body, memory, technology, and systems of perception in the context of a globalised present.

To mark the ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH 2027 fair, Shaura Gallery is presenting a curated selection of its artists, whose works explore the tensions between gesture and automation, and between emotional experience and technological systems.
Elena Shaura explores how language, memory and physicality are shaped by systems of circulation, communication and control. She employs a range of artistic techniques, including pendulum mechanisms, fragmented figurative imagery, projection and light, to create immersive environments. In such contexts, the body is perceived as a malleable entity, precariously positioned between the medium and the regulatory framework. In her practice, Shaura combines kinetic painting systems, text-based works and site-specific interventions to explore the fragility of human presence in the digital age.
Since 1983, the artist duo Valera and Natasha Cherkashin have been exploring the cultural codes of Russia, Germany, the UK, China and beyond. With an impressive track record of more than 215 solo exhibitions and over 300 art performances worldwide, the pair combine documentary and conceptual approaches in multi-layered visual systems. Their interdisciplinary work, encompassing photography, collage, performance and digital media, reflects historical ruptures and cultural hybridity.
Ivan Shalmin (1959-2022) was an architect and artist who developed a unique visual language. This blend harmoniously combines architectural rigour with an intuitive perception of space and inner states. Following over two decades of experience in architecture and interior design, he transitioned to digital painting in 2016. In his 'Psychedelics' series, he transformed his expertise in architectural planning into abstract, expansive images that mark the transition from physical construction to psychogeographical landscapes.

Die Shaura Gallery positioniert sich als transnationale Plattform, die den kulturellen Dialog zwischen kunsthistorischem Erbe und zeitgenössischer künstlerischer Forschung vorantreibt.
In ihren Salon-Räumen in Paris und London entwickelt die Galerie Ausstellungs- und Veranstaltungsformate, die an der Schnittstelle von Installation, Licht, bewegtem Bild und architektonischer Intervention operieren. Der kuratorische Fokus liegt auf immersiven, forschungsgeleiteten Praktiken, die die Zusammenhänge von Körper, Gedächtnis, Technologie und Wahrnehmungssystemen im Kontext einer globalisierten Gegenwart ausloten.

Anlässlich der Messe ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH 2027 präsentiert die Shaura Gallery eine kuratierte Auswahl ihrer künstlerischen Vertreter, deren Arbeiten sich mit den Spannungen zwischen Gestik und Automatisierung sowie zwischen emotionaler Erfahrung und technologischen Systemen auseinandersetzen.
Elena Shaura erforscht, wie Sprache, Erinnerung und Körperlichkeit durch Systeme von Zirkulation, Kommunikation und Kontrolle geformt werden. Sie bedient sich dabei verschiedener künstlerischer Mittel wie Pendelmechanismen, fragmentierter figurativer Bildsprache, Projektion und Licht, um immersive Umgebungen zu schaffen. In diesen Umgebungen erscheint der Körper als instabiles Material, schwebend zwischen Trägermedium und regulatorischer Struktur. In ihrer Praxis verbindet Shaura kinetische Malereisysteme, textbasierte Arbeiten und raumgreifende Interventionen, um die Fragilität der menschlichen Präsenz im digitalen Zeitalter zu verhandeln.
Das Künstlerduo Valera und Natasha Cherkashin erforscht seit 1983 die kulturellen Codes Russlands, Deutschlands, Grossbritanniens, Chinas und darüber hinaus. Mit einer beeindruckenden Bibliografie von mehr als 215 Soloausstellungen und über 300 Kunstperformances weltweit verbinden die beiden dokumentarische und konzeptionelle Ansätze in vielschichtigen visuellen Systemen. Ihr interdisziplinäres Schaffen, von Fotografie und Collage über Performance bis hin zu digitalen Medien, reflektiert historische Brüche und kulturelle Hybridität.
Ivan Shalmin (1959–2022) war Architekt und Künstler, der eine einzigartige visuelle Sprache entwickelte. Diese verschmilzt architektonische Strenge mit der intuitiven Wahrnehmung von Raum und innerem Zustand. Nach mehr als zwanzig Jahren Tätigkeit im Architektur- und Innenraumdesign wandte er sich 2016 der digitalen Malerei zu. In seiner Serie "Psychedelics" transformierte er seine bauplanerische Expertise in abstrakte, raumgreifende Bilder, die den Übergang von materieller Konstruktion zu psychogeografischen Landschaften markieren.
